Overheard during a Hakapara Party
When will you be back? We have new whitebelts that need to be choked out.
DAAAAAAAAAAN-SHAKU!! DAAAAAAAAAAAN-SHAKU!! DAAAAAAAAAAN-SHAKU!! (Cheers of everyone pursading “the Baron” to do pushups after spilling beer and food. He does 20 on the spot)
You know, after you left a lot of knee injuries have been happening. Actually, everyone sitting here (motions to the four guys close to us) has a knee injury. We all want to be like you.
I can’t pass guard… I’m too drunk.
Wow, wristlocks hurt. (From a whitebelt who said that wristlocks aren’t painful immediately after I put him in one)
There are no Shooto guys here because they’re not like us (jiu-jitsu practitioners). With them, training is serious. It’s always a competition with them. And when training is done, Shooto is done. When training is done, they’re tired and they want to go home. When training is over, Shooto is over. When we train and we’re finished, we’re tired too but we hang out, relax, go out afterward. For us jiu-jitsu training is serious, but so is playing.

the school that trains together, parties together

My judo club was sort of like that. There’s no place to practice where I live now, and I miss it so much.
